Residents in Cefnpennar may notice work activity over the next two weeks as a culvert survey is carried out on a local spoil tip, using Welsh Government funding.

The Cefnpennar colliery spoil tip is inspected monthly as part of the routine work by the Council’s dedicated Coal Tip Safety Team.

Recent site activity has seen blockstones and fencing put in place to prevent unauthorised access to the tip, as well as some drainage works.

Recent routine inspections have also identified the need for a larger culvert survey, to provide a more in-depth understanding of the drainage infrastructure that is present.

This will take place from Friday, July 25, and is estimated to last around two weeks in total.

The Council has appointed EDS as the contractor to carry out the survey, using funding from Welsh Government’s Coal Tip Safety Grant Scheme.

The culvert runs from an inlet near the rear lane behind Ton-Coch Terrace, before discharging into a drainage channel near Mill Road. The site will be accessed near Ton-Coch Terrace.

The pictured blockstones will be repositioned to enable access, while temporary fencing will be erected to further prevent unauthorised access.

Minimal overall disruption is expected for the community, with only a limited disturbance while the blockstones are re-positioned and replaced.
