Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is asking the public to help shape leaflets and guides for recreational cycling routes across the county borough.
The council’s Leisure and Tourism teams are reviewing existing recreational cycling routes and want feedback on the kinds of routes people would like to see presented, how routes are used now, what works well and what could be improved.
The survey also covers maps, leaflets and online information used to choose and access routes and nearby facilities and attractions. Feedback is sought on family-friendly routes, more challenging rides and routes with food or drink stops, as well as bike storage and access to public transport and parking.
Rhondda Cynon Taf already has routes on the National Cycle Network, the Taff Trail and other recognised routes. The council said the new leaflet is not intended to replace existing routes, but to build on them and improve access and navigation for residents of all ages and interests.
Cllr Scott Emanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: “Hundreds of people take to the trails, roads and routes of Rhondda Cynon Taf every day, enjoying cycling as a hobby – with the stunning views and varied landscapes adding to the experience.
“Our mountain roads, such as the Rhigos and Bwlch, were used as training by Sir Geraint Thomas throughout his professional cycling career simply because they were some of the most challenging, but rewarding in the area.
“We know cycling is something for all the family to enjoy and we are lucky to be home to the brilliant Barry Sidings, which has its own pump track, trails and bike doctor and Dare Valley Country Park, which is home to Gravity, the first ever purpose-built family bike track plus loads of great routes and trails.
“The aim of the survey is to gather as much feedback as we can about what information people need, so we can present the leaflets and guides to them to make the most of beautiful Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
The council said the survey takes a few minutes and can be completed online at https://rctcbc.welcomesyourfeedback.net/s/vfhyas?_cat=gibfifc.
