Cymru’s 23-player squad for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 finals in Switzerland has been announced by Rhian Wilkinson on the top of the Wyddfa, Wales’ highest summit.
Angharad James will captain the squad and is one of four centurions that have been selected for Cymru’s first major tournament in the women’s game. The three other selected centurions are Cymru’s most capped player Jess Fishlock, Hayley Ladd and Sophie Ingle, who has been selected after a period out with an ACL injury.
Cymru will face the winners of the last two EURO tournaments in England (2022) and the Netherlands (2017), as well as France who reached the semi-finals in 2017. The two top placed sides in the group will then progress to the quarter final stage.
Wilkinson’s side will begin the tournament in Lucerne against the Netherlands on Saturday 5 July (KO 5pm BST), before travelling to St. Gallen to face France (8pm BST Wednesday 9 July) and England 8pm BST Sunday 13 July). More than 2,000 Welsh fans will be in the Red Wall for each match, with Cymru due to be one of the best supported sides in Switzerland in terms of attendance.
The squad is being announced on the summit of the Wyddfa, sitting at 1,085 metres above sea level and overlooking the Eryri National Park in north Wales. A special press conference and media session will be taking place at Hafod Eryri on the mountain summit.
Media attending the event will travel to and from the summit via the Snowdon Mountain Railway.
Later in the day Rhian Wilkinson visited CPD Talysarn for a football festival on a Cymru Football Foundation funded pitch in Talysarn, followed by a Gŵyl Cymru event with a Q&A and a performance by the band Adwaith in Neuadd Ogwen, Bethesda.
Cymru will meet and depart from Cardiff on Sunday 22 June for a week-long training camp in Portugal to prepare for the tournament. They will then arrive in Switzerland on Sunday 29 June where the team will be based in Lipperswil and Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau.
