Dogs Trust Cardiff has celebrated rehoming its 100th hound, exactly three months after taking in its first doggy residents.
Taking the accolade are Chihuahuas Max, aged six and Minnie age four. They arrived at Dogs Trust Cardiff back in September when their owners could no longer care for them. But now, after a seven week wait, they have been adopted by Dr David New and Dr Xianghong Wang from Somerset who say they were drawn to the pair, after previously taking on a doggy duo from the charity’s Salisbury rehoming centre five years ago.
Max and Minnie’s new owner, Dr David New, says:
“Our very first dog many years ago was a street dog we took on when living in Hong Kong. He’d been treated badly and was injured when we found him but thankfully, he made a full recovery. We had him for 12 years and he was the one who taught us that a house really isn’t home without a dog.
“Back in 2016, we adopted an elderly pair of Yorkshire Terriers, who have now sadly passed away, from Dogs Trust Salisbury so we always wanted to bring another rescue dog into our lives when the time was right. When we saw Max and Minnie were looking for a home together, we jumped at the chance to adopt another pair.
“Taking on two dogs that have lived together their whole lives is very rewarding, and, in our experience we found that caring for two dogs is not much more effort than caring for one. They can keep each other company and play together, and we have plenty of love for the both of them!
“Max and Minnie have only been with us for a few days, but have settled in really well – it’s like they’ve always been here.”

Dogs Trust Cardiff is the charity’s 22nd rehoming centre and officially started welcoming dogs into their care in July. Whilst in their care, the dogs are cared for by a team of canine carers, training and behavior advisors and veterinary staff.
