The fantastic Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Penfro has been a big hit with pupils and staff since opening its doors in September 2024.
And now the £13.9m school, the first in Pembrokeshire to be delivered meeting stringent Net Zero Carbon requirements, has claimed two top awards for the quality and value of its build.
The school, constructed by Morgan Sindall Construction, has claimed the:
- Delivering Value Award at the Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards 2025.
- the Project of the year Award at the 2025 Welsh Government Education Buildings Awards.
These awards celebrate excellence across the sector, recognising outstanding consultants, contractors, clients, architects, and projects, alongside achievements in innovation and sustainability.
The Education Buildings Award highlighted the partnership working that went into the Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Penfro project:
“The success of this project, despite budgetary pressures, tight programme and constrained site has been born through the close professional, respectful and collaborative relationships developed between the various stakeholders and delivery teams involved, and is something to be celebrated, through the continued success of the building.”
Cllr Guy Woodham, Cabinet Member for Education and the Welsh Language, said: “I am delighted with these awards, and this success is in no small part due to the effective collaboration between the Council’s project team and the contractor.
“I am aware of the challenges the Council faced in delivering this project; the school and the awards collected recently are a credit to all involved.
“The awards reflect on the consistently good work being done to improve school learning environments and the investment being made by the Council to ensure that teaching and learning takes place in 21st century learning environments.”

Construction work on Ysgol Bro Penfro commenced in March 2023 and the keys handed over to the Executive Headteacher in July 2024.
The school opened to pupils in September 2024 and currently has 160 children on roll.
The Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Penfro building project was funded by the Welsh Government through its Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, and Pembrokeshire County Council.
