Drive-in street food cinema comes to Abertillery and Merthyr

Street Food Cinema

Street Food Cinema, the drive-in movie experience with some of Wales’ best-loved street food traders, is heading out on tour this week.

Taking in Abertillery and Merthyr over the next two weekends the cinema will be showing family movies like Trolls World Tour, Sing and Moana, musical favourites like Dirty Dancing, Grease and the Greatest Showman, and nostalgic classics like Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and The Lost Boys. Every day will start with an afternoon family matinee followed by an early and late evening showing.

The event will be bringing new street food traders to the area including Macho Nacho, Big Apple Hot Dogs with drinks and snacks from the Bobo soda & popcorn bar and Joe’s ice cream.

The drive-in rolls into Abertillery Group Practice car park from Friday 23 July – Monday 26 July then onto Cyfarthfa Castle from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August.

Street Food Cinema event in Cardiff

Street Food Cinema is a production of Street Food Circus, the team behind many of south Wales’ best-known pop up food festivals. Circus ‘ringmaster’ Matt ‘the Hat’ said:

“We’ve had a great run in Cardiff between lockdowns over the past year and we can’t wait to take our delicious drive-in out on the road. Everyone’s loved the chance for a safe and fun night out and it has been a real life line for the small independent food businesses that come and join us.

“You can bring the whole family or a bunch of friends – up to five in a car – watch the movies you love while eating from traders who are cooking some of tastiest, most exciting food in Wales at the moment. And you can do it all from the safety of your own car – all the ordering is done with your smartphone, payment is online and we bring the food and drinks right to your car window,” he said.
