Several roads across Swansea have been closed following heavy overnight rainfall that caused localised flooding in parts of the city and county.

Swansea Council said its highways teams have been working through the night after around two inches of rain fell in a short period, leading to rising river levels and waterlogged roads.

A number of routes will remain closed until conditions improve and river levels drop. These include Ynyspenllwch Road in Clydach, Ynys Y Mond Road in Clydach, the A4067 outbound from Castle Bingo to the Ynysforgan roundabout at M4 Junction 45, and Samlet Road on the A48.

Llandewi Corner at Scurlage is also closed for the time being due to flooding.

Cwmbwrla roundabout remains shut while council teams use pumps to lower water levels. The council has warned it is unlikely to reopen before this afternoon’s rush hour, advising drivers travelling into and out of the city centre to use alternative routes.

Motorists are being urged to drive with care if they need to travel, as some areas may still be affected by standing water.

Swansea Council said it will continue to provide updates as the situation develops. Anyone needing to report a highways issue today or overnight can contact the council’s highways team on 01792 841657.
