Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre is in the running for a national award.

The permanent Thomas exhibition and learning facility based in the centre has been shortlisted as best small museum in the Kids in Museums Awards 2023.

The awards celebrate outstanding experiences for children and families.

The council runs the centre’s Love the Words exhibition and engagement programme, which offer visitors an immersive introduction to Swansea-born poet Thomas.

Council cabinet member Cllr Elliott King said: “Thomas was a playful writer and we want to share his passion with our younger visitors inspiring them to love words.”

Through its interactive displays, audio-visual materials, children’s trail and original artefacts, centre visitors of all ages can explore the rich and diverse legacy of the poet, as well as his connections to Swansea and the wider world.

Families nominating the centre for the award were full of praise for it. Comments included:

    • “It’s one of the most kid-friendly places we’ve been to.”
    • “Really impressed with the plethora of activities! The staff couldn’t be lovelier.”

The awards are organised by charity Kids in Museums. The winners will be announced in October.
