For the past two years, this Caerphilly staple has been known as The Little Cheese Festival, but it’s proved to be anything but ‘little!’ And while the Big Cheese is unable to take place in its original capacity, we are making this year’s event bigger and better by reintroducing elements of Caerphilly’s most famous event – and so, we have the Caerphilly Cheese Festival!

This year’s event will encompass the entirety of Caerphilly town centre, including the rear of Caerphilly Castle, where there will be a larger funfair and the return of the much-loved food halls, including several cheese stalls. Nearby, you’ll find a picnic area to relax and enjoy a bite to eat while you listen to some fantastic live music from the Castle Moat stage, one of three music stages throughout the event site, along with the Green Lady Stage on Cardiff Road and the Leaning Tower Main Stage at The Twyn Car Park. Headlining this year’s event will be Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band on Saturday and Slipped Disco on Sunday.

There will be an increased number of food, drink & craft stalls throughout the entire event, offering a bigger choice of treats to choose from. Don’t forget to also see what will be on offer from Caerphilly’s amazing town centre businesses, as well as the goings-on at Brew Monster, Ffos Caerffili, Caerphilly Library, Caerphilly Artisan Market, Crafty Legs’ Craft Fair & Market, Castle Court Food & Craft Market and, of course, Caerphilly Castle itself! Other activities and entertainment include animal displays, Punch & Judy shows, face painting and craft workshops.

This year’s event also sees the return of the Caerphilly Cheese Race on Saturday 31st August! Organised by Sport Caerphilly and sponsored by eInfinity Limited, the race will see teams of four competing to win a £100 prize by carrying wheels of cheese from the rear to the front of Caerphilly Castle. There will also be medals for the best fancy dress and all competitors will receive free funfair tickets. Entry is free – to register, please email [email protected] or call 07919 627426.

The Caerphilly Cheese Festival takes place on Saturday 31st August from 9am-8pm and Sunday 1st September from 9am-5pm.
