Export tips from the top for Swansea businesses

Stephen Davies - Chief Executive Officer of Penderyn Distillery.

Swansea businesses looking to develop an overseas market will get tips from the top at a free event taking place later this month.

Stephen Davies, Chief Executive Officer of Penderyn Distillery, will be on hand to discuss how the company has grown its export business and key markets over the last two decades.

Being held online between 11.15am and 12.15pm on Monday February 26, the event has been organised by Swansea Council as part of its ongoing power hour business support service.

Launched in 2004, Penderyn whisky is now available in over 50 countries including France, Germany, the USA and China.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Many businesses in Swansea may either already be exporting their products or considering doing so in future, so this free online event will be extremely informative for local businesses of that kind.

“With a distillery and visitor centre now based at the Hafod Morfa Copperworks site in Swansea, Penderyn has become a global success story in recent decades, with figures showing exports accounting for over 30% of their total sales.

“It’s a company of international calibre, so the power hour event is a great opportunity for other businesses to learn from a Welsh company that’s made its mark around the world.”

Funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the power hour events are part of a package of free support made available by Swansea Council to the city’s business community.

The council also now holds free, drop-in business advice surgeries across the city, with the next surgery of this kind being held at the Rechabite Hall in Gowerton on Friday February 23 from 10am till 1pm.
