South Caernarfon Creameries (SCC) has won the prestigious ‘Food Producer of the Year’ award at the 2023 Wales Food and Drink Awards.

The awards ceremony, which took place at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on the 18 May, celebrated the dedication and talent of some of Wales’s best food and drink producers and suppliers.

Shining a light on the success stories of food and drink companies that are scaling up, creating employment and becoming an inspiration to others, the awards also highlight the diversity of the food and drink sector in Wales.

Standing out from the competition, with over 60 years of producing cheese, Wales’s oldest dairy co-op was recognised for consistently making a real impact in the Welsh food sector.

Based near Pwllheli, and with its flagship award-winning Dragon brand producing over 17,000 tonnes of cheese per year, South Caernarfon Creameries was the worthy winner of the ‘Food Producer of the Year’ category.

The award follows a busy start of the year for the creamery, with the recent launch of its TV advert for its flagship brand, Dragon, and its new and improved Dragon website.

The creamery is no stranger to awards. Last year, the Dragon brand won a remarkable 70 cheese and butter awards, including a hat-trick of gold global prizes at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards.

SCC Managing Director, Alan Wyn Jones said, “We are delighted to win this award. It is a testament to our staff and our farmer members, who are truly committed to producing exceptional quality Welsh dairy products from quality local milk.

He continued: “Since we launched our new and improved Dragon website last November, we have seen the growth in sales soar, but equally, winning this award fills us with pride. It is all down to locally sourced, quality ingredients, our committed team and not being afraid to move with the times. We are looking forward to another 60 years, and beyond, of making exceptional quality dairy products.”
