Environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy is giving away the last 70 free garden packages to communities across the country.

Community groups and organisations are being urged to apply now for a free garden package from Keep Wales Tidy to avoid missing out.

Since ‘Local Places for Nature’ scheme launched in 2020, more than 900 gardens have been created, restored and enhanced across Wales. Now, with only 70 packages left and this year’s application deadline approaching, time is running out for communities to get involved.

BBC presenter and Keep Wales Tidy Ambassador, Will Millard said:

“It’s incredible to see organisations of all shapes and sizes benefitting from Local Places for Nature – from fire stations and hospitals to homeless charities and housing associations. The new gardens aren’t just creating havens for wildlife but are providing a much-needed boost to communities across Wales.

“What are you waiting for? If you know an area that could benefit from being transformed, apply now before it’s too late!”

All orchard packages have been allocated but there are still wildlife and food growing packages available. Each one includes native plants, tools and other materials needed to create a garden. Keep Wales Tidy handle the orders and deliveries and their expert staff even provide help with building and planting.

The initiative is jointly funded by the Welsh Government, part of a wider Welsh Government ‘Local Places for Nature’ programme committed to creating, restoring and enhancing nature ‘on your doorstep’ and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

To apply for a free garden pack, visit the Keep Wales Tidy website www.keepwalestidy.cymru/nature

The deadline for applications is Monday 21 November 2022.
