A former office building in Barry has been transformed into new homes for single people at risk of homelessness.
The redevelopment of Cadoxton House has created modern, energy-efficient one-bedroom apartments that will provide vital short-term accommodation.
Work on the three-storey building was originally scheduled to be completed in mid-August but has finished ahead of schedule.
Cadoxton House has been designed to provide a safe, secure and supportive environment where residents can begin to rebuild their lives while taking steps towards securing permanent housing.
The development forms part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s wider housebuilding and regeneration programme, which aims to increase the supply of quality homes while making better use of existing buildings across the area.
Cllr Sandra Perkes, Cabinet Member for Public Sector Housing and Tenant Engagement, said: “The completion of Cadoxton House is a fantastic achievement and another important step in our work to provide high-quality homes for those who need them most.
“At a time when many have been affected by a nationwide housing crisis, we have worked at pace to transform this former office block into modern and sustainable accommodation, that offers a safe and supportive place, where people can take steps towards stability and more permanent housing. I look forward to seeing the positive difference Cadoxton House will make as its new occupants begin the next chapter of their lives.”
The scheme is also part of the Council’s efforts to bring vacant and underused properties back into productive use.
By repurposing existing buildings, the Council aims to help meet local housing need while supporting sustainable regeneration and creating stronger and more resilient communities.
