Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to Swansea Bay this weekend as the Wales Airshow returns with two days of spectacular aerial displays and family entertainment.
Taking place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, the free event will once again transform Swansea Bay into a natural amphitheatre, with a packed programme of military aircraft, historic warbirds, aerobatic teams and ground based attractions.
Presented by Swansea Council, the Wales Airshow attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year, delivering a major boost to the local economy while showcasing Swansea as one of the UK’s leading event destinations.
Among the headline attractions is the RAF Typhoon, a fourth generation multi role fighter aircraft capable of operating in high intensity conflict. Its appearance at this year’s event is being supported by Bassetts Motor Group.
Joining it in the skies will be the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring the C47 Dakota flying alongside the iconic Spitfire and Hurricane.
Visitors can also look forward to displays from:
- RAF Tutor Display Team
- Strikemaster Pair
- Rolls Royce Spitfire PS853
- Firebirds Display Team
- Jet Pitts
- Gazelle Squadron
- Navy Wings, featuring the Fairey Swordfish and Westland Wasp
- AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers
- OTTO the Schweizer 300C helicopter
Away from the flying displays, Swansea Promenade will be filled with attractions from 10am each day.
Families can enjoy interactive exhibits, live music, demonstrations, themed entertainers, funfair rides, virtual reality experiences and a wide selection of food and drink stalls throughout the weekend.
The celebrations will continue into Saturday evening with Wales Airshow Afterburn.
Councillor Andrew Williams, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Development, said: “The Wales Airshow is one of the highlights of Swansea’s summer events calendar and we’re delighted to welcome visitors back to Swansea Bay for another unforgettable weekend.
“From the thrilling aerial displays overhead to the fantastic attractions on the ground, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, a family looking for a great day out or visiting Swansea for the first time, the Wales Airshow promises a spectacular experience.”
Visitors are being encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and pre book parking where possible.
