Funding allocated to 14 projects to increase adult numeracy across Mid Wales

Following a recent call for applications for projects seeking to improve adult numeracy skills, 14* projects across the Mid Wales region have been approved. Through the UK Government’s Multiply programme which forms part of the Shared Prosperity Fund, an allocation of just under £2 million of funding is being given to deliver a variety of projects.

The types of projects that have secured funding, include:

  • Supporting people to be more confident with numbers
  • Running courses to help people use numeracy to manage their money.
  • Working with employers to provide courses covering specific numeracy skills that are needed in the workplace.
  • Provision via community organisations aimed at supporting the hardest to reach learners.

Out of the 14 projects, one project, run by Equal Education Partners is delivering courses aimed at parents and carers across Powys and Ceredigion. It will be a hybrid programme, comprising both online and face-to-face delivery, supported by an on-demand online learning platform. Courses will be available for parents wanting to increase their numeracy skills in order to help their children and to help with their own career progression.

Owen Evans, Managing Director, Equal Education Partners said: “We’re delighted to be delivering courses for parents and carers across Mid Wales, building upon our strong links with schools across the region. Over the next 10 months, we’re planning to work with 288 parents and carers to help them support their children’s Maths learning journey as they embrace the innovative new curriculum for Wales. Parents/carers can learn more about our work and sign up for courses by visiting: www.mathsforadultswales.com/contact.”

Further detail on all of the specific projects are available on Ceredigion and Powys County Council’s websites.

Jointly, Councillor Clive Davies, Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, and Councillor David Selby, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys and Chair of the Powys Shared Prosperity Fund Local Partnership, Powys County Council said: “We’re pleased to see that several organisations have come forward with projects that seek to increase adult numeracy across Mid Wales. These projects could be the vital link for some residents to increase their confidence in using maths in their daily life or act as a stepping stone in their career progression.”
