Welsh post production house Gelert is looking at rapid growth now that its new studio is complete.
Gelert has refurbished a former business unit into a leading Film and TV colour grading facility with practical and financial support from its landlord, UKSE, a subsidiary of Tata Steel.
Founder Emyr Jenkins is confident about the future and the firm’s place in the dynamic Welsh creative industries, now estimated to be worth £460 million a year. In the next three years he forecasts Gelert will take on more staff as it continues to build its reputation for post production services.
Gelert delivers the full spectrum of offline and online post production, crafting standout work for cinema, television and digital platforms across drama, documentary and commercial projects in both English and Welsh. These include The Feast, Richard Burton Wild Genius, Olympiacos: The Legend, Hunting Mr Nice, Helmand Tour of Duty and many others.
The firm was launched in smaller premises elsewhere in Cardiff and moved to UKSE’s Cardiff Bay Business Centre (CBBC) at the end of 2024 .
UKSE were delighted to accommodate them and have taken a flexible approach to helping the business expand.
Alongside providing space to grow, UKSE backed the development of the state of the art studio with significant investment and Gelert is now planning further expansion within CBBC.
“UKSE has been an exceptional partner throughout,” said Emyr. “They wanted to help the business grow and they have gone out of their way to make us comfortable and ensure we are OK. We couldn’t have done this without them.”
“We now run a high end grading facilities, arguably the strongest in Wales and competitive with the UK’s leading facilities – giving our clients real creative control and the confidence that every frame looks exactly as it should.”
Howard Thompson UKSE Regional Executive said he was delighted that Gelert had made CBBC its home. “We are very pleased to have been able to facilitate their move here and we are looking forward to helping them grow within CBBC.
“We pride ourselves on working flexibly with our tenants and being able to offer financial support as well as premises.”
