    This Christmas, National Trust Cymru invites visitors to discover the Victorian pastimes that continue to bring us together over the Christmas period at Penrhyn Castle and Gardens.

    On weekends from 25 November, twinkling lights and decked out halls bring a warmth to Penrhyn Castle. The lavish interiors provide a rich backdrop for a mix of traditional and modern Christmas decorations and the Grand Staircase sets the scene for the giant 15ft colourful Christmas tree.

    National Trust Cymru encourage visitors to spend time in these impressive rooms over the Christmas period, whether that’s by settling down with a book in the library or creating a Christmas craft in the drawing room. The games room also offers a great opportunity to bring out some competitive spirits and re-visit some classic board games.

    Kim White, Visitor Experience Officer at Penrhyn Castle, said;

    “Christmas is all about spending time with loved ones, and we have focused on creating an environment that facilitates that. Our Christmas offer looks at why this season has remained so important for people, and what traditions have stayed with us since the Victorian era.”

    “Of course, Penrhyn Castle’s rooms are awe-inspiring year-round, but over the Christmas period we add a little bit of magic to that, and we look forward to seeing people from the local community and beyond enjoying the space.”

    Outside, the frosty formal gardens provide the perfect setting for a family portrait as the garden team prepare a giant Christmas wreath.

    Winter is one of the best times to enjoy the views from the garden, with the crisp air giving clear views of the surrounding landscape. There are views all the way from the Great Orme and Puffin Island in one direction, and the majestic backdrop of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Carneddau to the other.

    Visit Penrhyn Castle and Gardens on weekends between 25 November and 17 December, during the week 18 – 22 December, or between 27 – 31 December. The castle is open between 10am and 4pm and booking tickets online for your castle entry slot is advisable on weekends.
