Wales is on course for a kaleidoscopic Christmas this year as tickets for the nation’s premier festive lights trail, Christmas at Bute Park, go on sale this week (June 27th).

Visitors are in for a spectacular display at the 4th award-winning event, with a re-imagined route of all new installations created by a selection of world-class artists and designers on offer in 2024.

Organisers have released an early sneak-peek of two illuminations set to appear at the event, both created by world class lighting experts.

    Mycelium Network

Leading the new sights on show, Mycelium Network is a huge, fibre-optic network of festive fungi which leads visitors through a colour-changing carpet of glowing mushrooms. The piece is created by the UK’s leading fibre-optics artist, Stevie Thompson.

    Over The Rainbow

Another light experience, ‘Over The Rainbow’, is designed by Ithaca Studios, internationally leading light artists who work with Blenheim Palace, Kew Gardens, Glastonbury and the renowned band Coldplay. Ithaca will bring to life two enormous, 400-year-old trees at Bute Park, carefully adorning them with over 3000 dazzling, computer-programmed lights, all set to dance to originally composed music in an unforgettable display.

Following a sell-out three years, organisers are introducing more ticket offers and discount codes throughout this year’s run, to help make the magic of Christmas available to more people in 2024.

As part of its annual Improvements Pledge, and responding to audience demand, popular Christmas hits will now feature in the Christmas Village, the event’s food and refreshments area, alongside a greater array of seasonal surprises along the route of the trail itself.

Roxy Robinson, Creative Director at From the Fields, the team behind Christmas at Bute Park, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be offering visitors an all-new array of world-class light installations as part of a reimagined route around one of the city’s most beloved landmarks, as we bring Christmas at Bute Park back to the heart of the Welsh capital this winter.

“Once again, we’ve been speaking and listening to the wonderful audiences that continue to support us, and we are really excited to bring a fresh line up of magical sights and sounds for the 2024 event.”

“We’ve been working harder than ever to bring the people of Wales, and the local communities we have come to know and value so much since Christmas at Bute Park first launched, a truly memorable and magical experience. We just can’t wait to open the doors on our 2024 event,” Roxy added.

With more than 100,000 tickets sold in 2023, Christmas at Bute Park will be returning to Cardiff city centre from November 22nd through to December 31st 2024, bringing more than five weeks of festive magic with it.

A limited number of tickets to this year’s event will be made available to customers signed up for the pre-sale event taking place this Thursday (June 27th) from 9am until Friday at 12pm, after which tickets for Christmas at Bute Park 2024 will become available on a general sale basis.

Continuing its work from previous years, Christmas at Bute Park will also be working with charities in Wales to offer complimentary tickets to local families, schools and disability organisations throughout this year’s event, which will once again include the Welsh Refugee Council, Cardiff Women’s Aid and more.

Tickets for Christmas at Bute Park are on pre-sale to those signed up for notifications as of  (Thursday June 27th, 9am) and available to book online at www.christmasatbutepark.com.
