A sold-out show with The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer will kick off a glorious summer at TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle this Friday.

The multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning rock pioneers are the first of 16 headline acts to head to the iconic Welsh venue between now and the end of July.

And as final preparations are taking place to throw open the gates, it is expected around 170,000 people will attend a show there this summer.

In a double-headlining set, US rockers The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer selected Cardiff as one of only five UK dates for their European tour this summer resulting in fans travelling from far and wide to experience the Welsh capital.

They will be followed by Nothing But Thieves, Crowded House, Paul Heaton, Eric Prydz, Avril Lavigne, The National, JLS, Rick Astley, IDLES, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Madness,Tom Grennan and Anne-Marie. In addition, both Manic Street Preachers and Suede and Catfish and the Bottlemen are playing two sold-out consecutive shows each.

The headline shows for TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle are presented by promoters DEPOT Live and Cuffe and Taylor.

Nick Saunders from DEPOT Live said: “We have an incredible summer lined up here at the castle and we can’t wait. We are kicking things off with a huge sold-out show from The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer and following that we have a brilliant line-up across the next six weeks.

“With a combination of homegrown Welsh giants and global superstars we are delighted to be working across such a range of shows and genres this year continuing to extend the Depot Live shows to as wide an audience as possible.

“There will be around 170,000 people attending these shows with many people travelling to stay overnight in our beautiful Welsh capital and we look forward to welcoming everyone for some amazing nights of live music.”

    The stage build for 2024

Cuffe and Taylor co-founder Peter Taylor added: “This is our second year working with the team at Depot and we can’t wait for what promises to be another fantastic summer in Cardiff. We had 13 nights of fantastic live music last year, this year we have 16 huge artists performing on 18 nights.

“Cardiff Castle is a beautiful venue to work with and it is a privilege to be given the opportunity to present some of the best music around today at this iconic venue.”

All gates will open at 5pm on each concert day apart from Eric Prydz, where gates open at 2pm, and Anne-Marie, when gates will open at 12pm.
