Gofyn Access Panel launched by Pembrokeshire County Council

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Access Team is launching Gofyn – a way for people with impairments / disabilities / additional needs to have their voices heard where it counts.

Gofyn will also provide a way for organisations to ask people who may use or access their product, development or service how to make it work for them.

You have questions? Great – that’s literally what Gofyn is about! Gofyn means ‘Ask’ – so this is all about questions.

Questions are how we learn what people want, and how we can best make things work for everyone. Gofyn will help make sure people with disabilities, impairments, health or other needs can have their say, whether it’s about a new road layout or a new lunch club.

How will it work? People across Pembrokeshire are invited to sign up as a member of Gofyn and tell us what they are interested in.

When we become aware of any consultations, or an organisation comes to us and asks for Gofyn members’ thoughts, ideas or comments we will reach out to any members who are interested and ask them to provide feedback.

This means things should work better for people who want or need to use them from the start, and won’t need redesigning to be accessible later on (making things quicker, cheaper and ready for everyone from the start).

Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said “It will be good to help people actively engage in consultations affecting their communities.

“We will see better designed, better used, right-first-time outcomes, and that’s good for everyone. I am encouraging people to sign up so they can have their say.”

Please get in touch with your questions via ‘phone, email, text or letter… we can even meet you somewhere to talk about Gofyn if that’s what you need us to do. If you’d like to communicate using another format, please let us know.

How do I get in touch?

Emma Lewis, one of the Access Officers at Pembrokeshire County Council is developing and managing Gofyn, and the Access Team is there in case Emma is unavailable for any length of time.

Gofyn gives the peace of mind of a Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) scheme – all data will be safely stored on Pembrokeshire County Council servers, under PCC Data Protection rules.

Contact Emma Lewis by telephone  01437  775  395; email [email protected]  or post Gofyn, Access Office, 3D, County Hall, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, SA61 1TP
