Construction work is now underway on a new school development for Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon.
It was announced in June that Andrew Scott Ltd would be the developers to take forward the project that will see the vacant Cwmcarn High School site transformed into a state-of-the-art school development.
The new school is being jointly funded by the Local Authority and Welsh Government as part of the Sustainable Communities for Learning (formerly 21st Century Schools) programme and will replace the existing Welsh Medium Primary School creating provision for 420 pupils, nursery, 2 SRB classrooms and Childcare Unit. The site will boast modern and light teaching spaces, improved vehicle and pedestrian access and extensive outdoor learning and play space for the school and wider community provision, with an anticipated completion date of September 2023.
Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education commented, “Caerphilly Council are committed to raising the standards of our schools and improving the quality of the learning environment.

We look forward to sharing the progress with the pupils now and as it develops further. The future of Ysgol Cwm Gwyddon is exciting, a new curriculum and a new school which will enable us to make the very best of the new surroundings.”

The Sustainable Communities for Learning programme is a collaboration between the Welsh Government and Local Councils in Wales. It is a significant, long-term and strategic capital investment programme with the aim of creating a generation of 21st Century Schools in Wales.
