Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd has expanded into new premises in Colwyn Bay after a £1,600,000 investment, supported by Barclays.

The former Slaters Van Centre site will provide additional space and create 10 new jobs for this local family business as it relocates from its current site on Conway Road, Mochdre.

Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd was established in 1984 and supplies, hires and services a range of forklift and access equipment such as scissor lifts and telescopic handlers. The business currently employs 37 staff and expects turnover to exceed £6.5 million next year.

Paul Singleton, Managing Director at Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd said:

“Moving to the new site will allow the continued evolution of our business. The new site will accelerate the growth of the new company GFL Access which has diversified the business into the sale, hire and servicing of access platforms and lifts. I started as an apprentice 42 years ago driving and repairing forklifts. At 23 I started my own business from the back of my house in Penmaenmawr and have steadily grown the business over the next couple of decades.”

Gary Fletcher, Barclays Relationship Director, said:

“By really understanding the business and the industry sector, Barclays has been able to provide a funding package to support Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd throughout this exciting expansion. A £1,600,000 investment in the new premises demonstrates both Barclays and Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd confidence in the continued growth and success of the business.”

Paul Singleton, Managing Director at Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd continues “This is very much a family business with my two sons, brother, sister and two nephews working in the business. With over 500 machines on hire at any one time we are growing the business in the right direction. We are optimistic for the future and already have plans to acquire another 1.5 acre site in Oswestry so that we can expand our geographical footprint further across the Midlands and the rest of the UK.”
