Huge animatronic dragon set to visit Mermaid Quay this autumn

Mermaid Quay is set to play host to the UK’s largest animatronic Dragon this October, allowing visitors to the top dining and leisure destination in Cardiff Bay to be the first in the world to see the ‘roarsome’ beast.

Towering over the centre’s Tacoma Square from Saturday 23 October – Sunday 7 November, the brand-new 15-metre-long and 6-metre-tall dragon has never been on display before.

Featuring a moving head and tail, opening and closing eyes, life-like breathing movements, along with a terrifying roar and smoky breath, the fearsome red dragon, which is of course the symbol of Wales, will be free to view.

In addition to the huge dragon, there will also be a dragon ride for kids (£4 a ride) and dragon-themed competitions and activities to coincide with half term.

Mermaid Quay centre manager Simon Whiting said: “We’re really looking forward to being the first in the world to play host to this massive dragon. It promises to be a huge draw, attracting visitors not just from the Cardiff area, but from across Wales and beyond, who want to see the closest thing possible to a real-life Welsh dragon. I’m sure it’ll also surprise a few passers-by!

“With loads of places to eat and drink at Mermaid Quay, together with many other attractions in Cardiff Bay, our dragon will give families a great reason to visit during half term and beyond. Don’t forget your phones and cameras, you won’t want to miss this!”
