After laying empty for years, the basement level of the Capitol Shopping Centre in Cardiff city centre is to be turned into a brand-new bar, restaurant and crazy golf venue called Par 59.

Proposed design of Par 59, main bar area.

When complete, the 18,000 sq ft site will boast two permanent independent kitchens, two adults-only, crazy golf courses, two large bar and dining rooms, and a separate area for private bookings.

    Lounge area design, Par 59.

The venue is being developed by the team behind successful Cardiff brand The DEPOT, who recently announced that they are investing £300,000 into a move from their original warehouse venue on Dumballs Road to a new premises closer to the city centre.

After establishing themselves as one of the biggest entertainment brands in the city, they will cease trading at their original location mid-January 2020 and reopen at a new 22,000 sq. ft venue on Williams Way, Curran Embankment on the 31st January.

Meanwhile, Par 59 – which is being developed separately in partnership with a private investor – is estimated to open in late April 2020.

Edward Richards, Asset Manager at NewRiver who manage the Capitol Centre said “We are delighted to announce that Par 59 will be coming to the Capitol. They will be occupying the basement unit located on the corner of Queen Street and Station Terrace. They will revitalise space in the Centre that has been void for several years.

This letting marks the first of a number of exciting new operators to come to the Capitol, as part of our wider development plans. NewRiver look forward to announcing further developments for the Capitol in 2020.”

Nick Saunders, founder and Managing Director of The DEPOT and Par 59, is excited to get started on the renovations.

He said, “We have been throwing around ideas for the Capitol for some time as we always felt there was an opportunity to do something really exciting there. We’re so pleased to be breathing new life into a forgotten part of the centre and can’t wait for people to see what we have planned.”
