In pictures: Welsh fans brave it for Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra

Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra performed Ibiza Classics in the gorgeous grounds of Cardiff Castle last night (July 28), bringing their Mediterranean dance party to the walled garden in the heart of the capital.

The show was a massive hit with ravers, party animals and everyone who ever saw Ibiza as their Mecca, an irresistible combination of the UK’s most influential DJ with a 65 piece orchestra and a spectacular visual show with lasers.

Pete congratulated Tour De France winner Geraint Thomas before an ecstatic Welsh crowd.

The concept first came to fruition after a lot of hard work and careful curation at the massively successful BBC Proms show at the Royal Albert Hall three years ago. Pete’s collaboration with the Heritage Orchestra conducted by Jules Buckley went on to play arenas around the world, including the Hollywood Bowl and two sold out nights at the O2, and spawned the album Classic House, which sold over 200,000 copies and reached number one in the UK, and the follow-up, Pete Tong Ibiza Classics, which has so far amassed over 120,000 sales.

The Cardiff Castle event was promoted by a dream team featuring the Orchard Media and Events Group and three times Live UK National Promoter, DHP Family, who also promoted the first run of four nights with Ed Sheeran at the Principality Stadium earlier in June. Orchard, twice winner of the Regional Promoter of the Year in the UK Live Music Business Awards have staged hugely successful concerts with the likes of Paul Weller in the Castle grounds, and the sold out Catfish And The Bottlemen gig taking place tonight (July 29).

    Orchard’s director Pablo Janczur said:

“Pete Tong and the orchestra recreates the spirit of Ibiza in a castle in the centre of Cardiff for what will be the party highlight of summer 2018. It’s a huge experience, and vividly captures a real moment in time.”

Pete Tong has been a massively influential figure in dance music over the past 20 years, predominantly as the voice of Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming. The Essential Mix continues to be the standard bearer of mix shows, and his Essential Selection is still the influential place to premiere new records. All Gone Pete Tong is a residency brand and cult classic film, as well, of course, as being widely used in rhyming slang.
