North Wales Police are increasing patrols in the Hirael, Maesgeirchen and High Street areas following a serious assault in Bangor earlier this week, Tuesday 9th July.

Emergency services attended Llandegai Road shortly before 8.30pm following reports of an assault, which subsequently resulted in a teenager being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Three young people were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody whilst enquiries are ongoing.

Officers are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

District Inspector for Gwynedd North Jamie Owens said: “I would like to thank members of the community who contacted the police last night and for their support whilst emergency services were in attendance.

“Investigations into the assault are ongoing, and I would reassure residents that there is no ongoing risk to the wider public.

“I recognise the impact that incidents like this can have on young people, their families and the wider community, and I have therefore directed increased patrols in the area over the coming days.

“It is likely therefore that communities will see an increased presence in the areas of Hirael, Maesgeirchen and Bangor High Street for reassurance purposes.

“I am also aware that there is video footage of this incident circulating on social media, and I am urging the public to avoid sharing the footage online, or speculating as to the nature of the incident, as this can hinder the investigation and cause unnecessary distress to the persons involved.

“I would appeal for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police via our website, by calling 101, speaking directly to a local officer or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Anybody who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist police enquiries should contact North Wales Police quoting reference C102685.
