Interim board to provide extra support at Ogmore Vale Primary

A local school that was judged by Estyn as requiring ‘special measures’ is making steady progress and is continuing to receive support from Bridgend County Borough Council and Central South Consortium.

Ogmore Vale Primary was placed in ‘special measures’ in 2019 after a poor inspection by Estyn found that leadership and management at the school was unsatisfactory and in need of urgent improvement.

With a new senior leadership team in place, the school has been working steadily to address the actions required by Estyn, and as part of this support, an interim executive board has been created.

Designed to help the school to progress, the board will provide the support and challenge necessary for Ogmore Vale Primary School to be able to drive forward improvement. With Welsh Government approval in place, the board will commence at the school on 28 May 2021.

The interim executive board is likely to be in place for a least a full school year.

During that time, it will seek to create and support a shadow governing body, and they will both work in partnership to finalise necessary improvements before the board transfers over its powers.

Ogmore Vale Primary is making excellent progress. With the support of the board, I have every faith that the school will be able to continue to improve, and provide the excellent education learners in the Ogmore Valley deserve.

Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration
