Leader of Welsh Conservative Party praise Caldicot Group for employment investments

One of South Wales’ fastest growing companies has been praised by the leader of the Welsh Conservative Party for its investment in providing employment opportunities for local people.

Andrew RT Davies made the comments on a visit to the headquarters of the Caldicot Group in Monmouthshire where he learned more about the company’s plans to double the size of its workforce over the next five years.

The Caldicot Group, which employs more than 100 people, is one of the UK’s biggest independent recovery agencies with depots in Monmouthshire, Gloucester, the Forest of Dean and the Midlands. It intends to double the number of people it employs over the next five years through a major investment programme, which includes its recent acquisition of Overbrook Recovery in Gloucestershire.

With an operating network of more than 6,000 square miles the group supports the vehicle recovery and maintenance needs of over 500 businesses and is a Highways England contractor.

    Mr Davies said:

“The Caldicot Group is a shinning example of how Welsh businesses are leading the way on a UK-wide level, which is something we should support and celebrate. The company’s commitment to its workforce – both in terms of employee training and employment opportunities – underlines how businesses can grow and prosper through investing in people. As a party we are committed to ensuring businesses like the Caldicot Group get the legislative and financial support they need to continue growing as part of a successful Welsh economy. In doing so the benefits can be shared by all in our society.”

The Caldicot Group is the headline sponsor of this year’s Wales Transport Awards, which Mr Davies described as an important opportunity to celebrate and recognise the important contribution transport operators make to the Welsh economy.

“Wales’ transport sector is an important part of the Welsh economy supporting thousands of jobs and businesses. It is only right these companies are recognised for their invaluable work and contributions.”

Gavin Edwards, managing director of the Caldicot Group, added: “We are grateful to Mr Davies for taking the time to visit our headquarters in Monmouthshire. It was extremely interesting learning about how his party is supporting Welsh businesses, which is important to us being able to continue providing high-skilled, well paid employment opportunities to local people.”
