With the 2023 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show taking place this week, St John Ambulance Cymru are encouraging people to visit their stand at the show, to learn lifesaving first aid skills for free.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show is a hugely popular annual event which oversees livestock and equine competitions, along with various activities like horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, shopping, food and drink and various entertainment for the crowds. People from across the country attend  the four-day festival and it is enjoyed by people of all ages.

St John Ambulance Cymru have been involved with the show for many years and will be running a stall delivering free first aid demonstrations. Visit stand 252 on avenue B at the show and have a go at CPR on one of the first aid dummies or practice the recovery position with friends and family. St John Ambulance Cymru are hoping as many people as possible come away from the show with new lifesaving first aid skills.

If you’re in need of sun protection whilst out and about at the event, St John Ambulance Cymru have you covered. The team will be selling their brand new bucket hats as part of the summer ‘Raise Your Buckets’ campaign. Funds from these hats will support the charity’s lifesaving work in communities across Wales.

This year, St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers are also providing over 1800 hours of medical provision to Builth Wells town, helping to support the local NHS provisions with the huge influx of visitors. Over 100 volunteers will be out at key help points in Builth Wells from 22nd-27th July, providing 24 hour care for those who may need assistance.

Cllr Richard Church, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for a Safer Powys, said: “The Builth Wells Events Safety Group is again delighted to be working with St John Ambulance Cymru, for the third year, to provide 24-hour medical provision for those visiting the Builth Wells area for the Royal Welsh Show.

“We want to ensure that everyone who attends the area during the week can ‘Have Fun, Take Care and Stay Safe’, and we would like to thank St John Ambulance Cymru and all of our partners who are working hard to do this.

“The presence of the volunteers and registered Health Care Professionals of St John Ambulance Cymru during the week is vital to protecting resources and taking the strain off the NHS locally, and we thank them for all their work.”

St John Ambulance Cymru are proud to be supporting local NHS resources in the area and teaching lifesaving skills at the show itself.
