London acid jazz band first to join The DEPOT’s growing music line-up

The DEPOT, who have established themselves as one of the best-loved entertainment brands in the city, recently relocated to a new 30,000 sq ft venue on Curran Road.

The move, which increased the venue’s total capacity from 1,600 to 2,500, was a key linchpin in the venue’s strategic ambitions to put on more live music and entertainment events through 2023 and beyond.

The first of those will be headlined by the leading band in London’s acid jazz scene, The Brand New Heavies– who have translated their love of sophisticated ’70s funk grooves into an evolving danceable sound that has endured for over 30 years. The Brand New Heavies made their recorded debut near the end of the 1980s and thrived throughout the ’90s.

It’s expected that the band will play many of their fifteen UK Top 40 singles, including Dream on Dreamer, Never Stop and Midnight at Oasis when they headline at The DEPOT on Saturday 19th August.

The group rose to prominence with their two platinum-selling albums Brother Sister and Shelter, mixing funk and acid jazz. In 2019, they released TBNH through Acid Jazz Records, the label founded by legendary DJ Gilles Peterson.

Tickets for The Brand New Heavies at the DEPOT are on sale now, starting at £19.25.
