Lost ferret wanders into Cyncoed property

A Cardiff family had a shock when a stray ferret wandered through the back-door of their home.

RSPCA Cymru was contacted after the ferret made an unannounced visit to a property on Fidlas Road last Friday evening (11 October). The property is on the Cyncoed side of the road.

The male ferret was taken to a veterinary practice to be checked over, but fortunately was found to have no welfare concerns. He is now based at the charity’s Newport Animal Centre.

RSPCA officers have now launched a search for the owner, in the hope of ensuring the white ferret is returned home.

The pet is not microchipped – something RSPCA say is “so important” in returning lost animals to their owners.

RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said: “It was 10.30pm at night when this cheeky ferret entered a Fidlas Road property unannounced – and undoubtedly gave the homeowners quite a surprise!

“We’re really grateful to them for looking out for him – and he was soon transferred to a vets, who found no welfare problems.

“It seems very likely this ferret has escaped from a home from the north or central area of Cardiff, so we’re hoping someone will recognise him and contact us.

“Sadly, he isn’t microchipped. Permanently identifying pets in this way is so important in ensuring lost pets can be swiftly returned home.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
