Six community groups in Pembrokeshire have received £130,052 in Nation Lottery funding. From providing digital training course to support to families in crisis, these projects are bringing communities together and helping those most in need.
Pembrokeshire FRAME are celebrating the success of their application for £10,000 to open a zero-waste shop to reduce plastic pollution and put less waste into landfill. Appointing a Zero Waste Co-ordinator to develop and deliver The Refillery of Pembroke Dock located in the FRAME reuse shop. Other projects within the shop include Pembroke Dock Community Fridge and plastic free lifestyle workshops.
Paul Hughes, Chief Officer at Pembrokeshire FRAME said: “We are delighted to receive National Lottery funding for our zero waste projects. Following the impacts of Covid-19, this funding could not have come at a better time. Funding will assist us in supporting the vulnerable individuals we work with and the local community, whilst significantly helping us to meet our waste reducing targets”.
Windswept CIC will buy some safety kit and install a hoist with their £7,894. The hoist will go on the pontoon at their water sports centre to enable people with disabilities to take part in Paddle-Ability sessions.
Sarah Bagley, Director Windswept CIC welcomed the grant saying: “We are so excited to have received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, to purchase and install a disabled access hoist on the pontoon in Dale. The team can’t wait to put the hoist into use this summer with our Paddle-Ability sessions. The hoist is going to create opportunities for more people to access water sports in Pembrokeshire.”
Parental Education Growth Support CIC will use £9,110 to provide Empowering Parents in Crisis support programme specifically for parents experiencing child to parent abuse. This will include learning techniques to help them manage their situations and how to decrease in violence.
Michelle John, Founding Director at PEGS, said: “A huge thank you to the Community Fund for their support, which has enabled us to run more of our bespoke programmes for parents, carers and guardians experiencing Child to Parent Abuse. The programme focuses on empowerment, resilience, and coping techniques for these parents who often describe feeling isolated, unable to cope and unsure where to turn because of the abusive and violent behaviour being targeted towards them. It makes such a huge difference to the parents to be listened to, believed and supported – and we are delighted the Fund saw the worth of EPIC.”
Lamphey Village Hall’s grant of £9,500 will update the hall’s outdated and inefficient heating system. This will provide a comfortable and safe environment for users coming back to the hall after the pandemic.
Michael Colley, Chairman of Lamphey Village Hall Management Committee, said: “We are extremely grateful for the assistance from the Lottery Fund to enable us to proceed with our wish to install an eco-friendly heating system in the Lamphey Village Hall.”
Over two years, Ateb Group Ltd will use £83,648 to provide digital training and ongoing support to 200 people a year to connect with family and friends, access services and improve their wellbeing. They will support people who are digitally excluded due to financial hardship or lack of support for their age profile. The project will assist people to access Universal Credit and other financial support.
Bethesda Neyland Men’s Shed will use £9,900 to make improvements to their portacabin and accessible community garden, allowing more activities to take place. which help to address social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Robert Roffe, Head of the Mid and West Wales region at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “We are delighted to be able to award this funding to all six Pembrokeshire community groups, thanks to National Lottery players. Around eight in ten of our grants are for under £10,000 – going to grassroots groups and charities like these, bringing to life amazing ideas that matter to their local communities.”
These projects are just some of 104 projects awarded across Wales in the past month totalling £4,056,838 of funding raised by National Lottery players.
