The ISPS HANDA Senior Open will return for a fourth time to Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in July 2027, further strengthening the county borough’s reputation as a leading destination for tourism and major events.

The event is Europe’s only Senior Major golf championship and attracts global media coverage, along with large numbers of spectators and participation from some of the greats of the sport.

Former Ryder Cup stars such as Pádraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjorn and Darren Clarke have all competed in the tournament in recent years along with the likes of Ernie Els, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Bernhard Langer.

The course at Royal Porthcawl is set against the backdrop of Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula and is widely recognised as one of the UK’s top links courses, having hosted several high-profile events in recent years including the AIG Women’s Open, as well as major amateur championships.

“We are very pleased to see the ISPS HANDA Senior Open returning to Royal Porthcawl in 2027, and this is a strong vote of confidence in Bridgend County Borough as a top-class destination for major events. “The event will provide a boost to the local economy, while continuing to raise the profile of Bridgend County Borough on the international stage. Royal Porthcawl is now widely recognised around the world as a first-class golf course, and we look forward to working with a range partners to deliver another successful championship that brings benefits to local residents, businesses and visitors.”

Janine Nightingale, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Corporate Director for Communities

“Royal Porthcawl is an important venue for The R&A and has an enviable track record of staging prestigious professional and amateur championships. “We enjoyed a fantastic championship during the AIG Women’s Open last year and the players relished every moment of playing these wonderful links. We look forward to returning next year for the ISPA HANDA Senior Open for another memorable week of golf.”

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Chief Championships Officer at The R&A

The championship is co-sanctioned by the Staysure Legends Tour and PGA TOUR Champions and further details about the event will be announced in due course.
