Stephen Stevens, who runs Sosban & The Old Butchers on Anglesey and claimed the island’s first Michelin star, is to cook up a treat for visitors to Mold Food & Drink Festival.

His Menai Bridge restaurant is so popular it takes bookings a year in advance. But festival-goers will only have to wait until September to see what makes Stephen’s dishes so special.

The chef, who specialises in cooking with local produce sourced daily, joins Celebrity Masterchef winner chef and author Lisa Faulkner on the Sunday.

Saturday’s line-up will include Graham Tinsley OBE, Rob Dowell-Brown, who is about to open his own restaurant outside Ruthin and was previously at The Piccadilly Inn, Caerwys, and college lecturer and demo chef Mark Robertson.

John Les Tomos, chair of Mold Food & Drink Festival, said:

“There are some outstanding and talented chefs in North Wales, all of whom are packing a punch on the culinary stage. This year’s line-up is one of our finest yet and we are delighted to be able to welcome talent such as Stephen, who has an outstanding reputation, to our festival.”

Stephen started his career in the kitchen in 1999 with Marcus Wearing at Petrus and opened Sosban in 2012. Fast forward to 2016 and Stephen picked up Anglesey’s first Michelin Star.

He said: “A husband-and-wife team, we’ve created something quite special in North Wales. There is a real appetite for good food, using seasonal produce, and supporting local producers. This is why festival’s such as Mold are really important, they shine the spotlight on existing and emerging talent and showcase all the areas has. We’re looking forward to playing our part in this year’s event and cooking for visitors.”

Firm festival favourite Graham Tinsley MBE, who heads up the Welsh National Culinary Team, and local chef and lecturer Mark Robertson will make welcome returns to the event, which is now in its 13th year.

Chef Rob Dowell-Brown will also be at the festival ahead of opening his new restaurant on the outskirts of Ruthin. A keen forager, he will cook for visitors and also share his tips on making the best use of local produce.

Mold Food & Drink Festival will be held on September 15th and 16th on the town’s New Street Car Park. www.moldfoodfestival.co.uk
