The Gŵyl Gymreig will be held on Thursday 26 February 2026 from 12pm to 4pm, bringing together families, local businesses and community organisations for an afternoon of music, learning and celebration.
The event has been coordinated through the community benefits programme associated with the construction of the new Ysgol Iolo Morganwg building in Cowbridge.
It aims to promote Welsh-medium education in the Western Vale, celebrate Welsh culture, and strengthen links with local businesses in Cowbridge.
Designed to create a lively, marketplace-style atmosphere, the event will feature stalls from Cowbridge’s local businesses and representatives from the town’s popular farmers’ market.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of locally produced goods, pies and pastries, fruit and vegetables, craft ciders, cakes, school accessories, gifts, selection of cheeses and Welsh-language books.
The programme for the day will include:
- Performances from three local school choirs
- A special musical performance from Bethany Powell from The Voice Cymru
- Ti a Fi group session
- Amser Stori session for toddlers and parents
- Arts and crafts activities for children
- Welsh food quiz by Loving Welsh Food – Food tour prize for the winner
- Adult learning information, including opportunities to learn Welsh
- A Q&A session exploring the benefits of Welsh-medium education
- Information on NHS Welsh-language career opportunities
- A presence from Kier Construction, currently leading the development of the new school
- Free raffle to win a hamper of goods and produce from the festival
The promotional material for the event has been specially designed by a pupil of Ysgol Iolo Morganwg, highlighting the school’s central role in the day’s celebrations.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language, said: “The development of the new Ysgol Gymraeg Iolo Morganwg represents a significant investment in Welsh-medium education in the Western Vale and the Gŵyl Gymreig is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our language and culture, while also showcasing the many benefits of choosing Welsh-medium education for our children.
“We are proud to be working with local businesses and community partners to create an event that reflects the vibrancy of Cowbridge and the strength of our Welsh identity -especially in the Western Vale. I would everyone to come along, get involved and be part of the celebrations.”
