Nantyglo man fined after illegally dumping waste

A Nantyglo man has been fined and ordered to pay clean-up costs for two incidents of fly-tipping in the Blaenau Gwent area.

Jordan Oadley, of Dale View, was prosecuted for 10 offences relating to the two incidents after taking payment from members of the public to dispose of their waste. He was charged with offences including, knowingly causing controlled waste to be deposited from a motor vehicle, failure to prevent unauthorised deposit of controlled waste, falling to prevent escape of waste in his control, knowingly depositing controlled waste and failing in his duty to ensure a written description of waste was transferred when waste was exchanged.

Magistrates at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court fined Oadley £480 and ordered him to pay £300 clean-up costs.

Councillor Helen Cunningham, the Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place & Environment says:

“Here we have another successful prosecution for fly-tipping thanks to our zero-tolerance approach and commitment to ridding our communities of this anti-social behaviour. We will continue to work to hold to account the minority who show a disregard for our natural environment. The message is clear – we will not tolerate fly-tipping in Blaenau Gwent.

“I urge anyone who is paying someone to remove waste to check that person is fully licensed and registered to do so, otherwise you could also be liable for a fine. It’s quick and easy to check on the Natural Resources Website here.”
