Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA) has launched its Flourish project, which has received a National Lottery Community Fund grant to help working families improve their finances and quality of life.
CCHA received over £470,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund as part of their £6 million programme which looks to support projects that help families who are struggling financially, but have at least one adult working, to reduce the impact of in-work poverty.
The Flourish project, which launched at an event in Butetown, welcomed Julie James AM, Minister for Housing and Local Government who shared her thoughts on the importance of projects like Flourish, to ensure that working families received the support they need and reduce in-work poverty.
The Minister said: “This fantastic project is tackling the scourge of in-work poverty head-on. I hope those taking part will find the tailored support helps them to improve their lives and revitalise their communities. I will continue to lobby the UK Government to reconsider its damaging tax and welfare policies which are having such a devastating impact on working families and as a government, we will continue our efforts to promote fair work in Wales.”
CCHA’s Flourish project will support working families to be empowered and equip them with the skills to shape the services they receive for the benefit of themselves, their communities and families. The project will also enable families to thrive and prosper both individually and as a community.
Sue Anscombe, Community and Regeneration Manager, CCHA commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for our Flourish project. The project will allow us to support working families, who may be struggling financially or facing barriers they are finding difficult to overcome.
“We will work with each family to identify the areas where they want to focus, and which will hopefully help to provide a solution. This will allow families to thrive both individually and as a community.”
The Minister was joined by Angela Bullard, who is chair of Splott Community Volunteers, who are supporting the project through its breakfast club initiative and Rob Pickford from the National Lottery Community Fund, who also sits on the helping working families committee.

Cardiff Community Housing Association and the families that will benefit from this project have come together to create a solution that will make a real difference to people’s lives thanks to National Lottery players.”
As part of the project, families will also be given the opportunity to develop and run their own initiatives which will increase potential earnings, improve employment opportunities and improve quality of life.
