Haverfordwest’s new Glan yr Afon/Riverside Public Transport Interchange is due to open on Friday from 2pm, Pembrokeshire County Council has said.
The hub includes a bus station and multi-storey car park, with one hour of free parking. The council said the facility is intended to make visiting the county town easier and to improve connections with bus and other onward transport.
Features listed by the council include wide spaces, an upgraded waiting room, public toilets including a Changing Places toilet, and dedicated EV charging. Safety measures include high-quality CCTV across the site, improved lighting and an on-site caretaker. A Dyfed-Powys Police PCSO will also use a dedicated office on site as a base.
The project has been backed by £16.894 million of Welsh Government grant funding through the Local Transport Fund and £1.987 million of Pembrokeshire County Council match funding. A further £1.2 million of Transforming Towns funding has supported the HPTI public realm and Prendergast Connectivity Bridge improvements. Kier Construction built the interchange.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, Cllr Paul Miller, said: “This project is about much more than a bus station and car park.
“It is about making Haverfordwest easier and more convenient to visit, supporting local businesses and continuing the wider regeneration of our county town.
“Over recent years we have invested significantly in Haverfordwest, transforming previously underused buildings or derelict, improving public spaces and investing in infrastructure. Projects like this create the foundations for future growth and private investment.
“This opening is another important step forward and another vote of confidence in the future of Haverfordwest.”
Bus services will begin to use Glan yr Afon/Riverside from Monday, 21 September.

The car park will operate 24 hours with number plate recognition. Charges are: 1 hour £0.00; 2 hours £2.00; 4 hours £3.00; 10 hours £3.50; 24 hours £4.50; and motorbikes 24 hours £1.00. Blue Badge holders will get an extra hour free by swiping their Blue Badge barcode at the payment terminal. Payment is cashless by card or contactless only, and the PaybyPhone app cannot be used. Motorists pay on return before exit.
