New build director at Edenstone Homes to support growth

EDENSTONE homes has appointed Mike Huddleston as build director to support its ambitious growth plans.

Mike has 20 years’ experience in the housebuilding sector.

In his new role with the Magor-based premium homebuilder, Mike will oversee construction work at developments across South Wales and the South West of England.

“I have always had an interest in construction, buildings and architecture,” Mike explained.

“When I left school I completed a National Diploma in Construction, which looked at all aspects within the Construction Industry, before completing an honours degree in Building Technology and Management.”

Mike started out as a trainee site manager with Beazer Homes in 1999. The company was acquired by Persimmon in 2001 and Mike worked his way up the career ladder, progressing to site manager and then contracts manager in 2014.

During his time as a site manager he achieved recognition for quality from the LABC, Zurich and the NHBC.

“Edenstone is fast gaining a reputation as a forward-thinking homebuilder with a bright future ahead and I was excited at the prospect of being part of the business,” Mike added.

“The layout of the developments, design of the homes and the specification really sets Edenstone apart from other homebuilders. The company has an ambitious growth plan and in my new role I will be helping to ensure that as the business expands the high quality finish buyers want and expect from a new home is maintained.”

Having worked in construction throughout his career, Mike, 43, from Pembrokeshire, would encourage others to work in the industry.

“Part of the challenge in delivering much-needed new homes to meet consumer demand is ensuring we have a skilled workforce. Homebuilding and construction is a rewarding career, particularly when you see the finished results and happy homeowners moving in and enjoying living in a home you’ve helped build,” Mike said.

“There are lots of different routes that can lead to a successful career in construction, starting from apprentices learning the trades to postgraduate and beyond. There are also opportunities for career progression, particularly with independent, privately-owned businesses like Edenstone who have built a solid team and created a workplace where people can thrive.”

Edenstone’s turnover grew from £3.8 million in 2015/16 to £18.3 million in the year ending 30 April 2018. The rise in turnover followed an increase in the number of sales outlets and legal completions, earning the business recognition in the Wales Fast Growth 50 and in Wales Business Insider’s latest SME 100. As part of an ambitious growth plan, Edenstone is currently working towards increasing turnover to £50 million a year.

Martin Taylor, managing director for Edenstone Homes, said:

“Mike’s experience as an award-winning site manager will be an asset to the business and he is a welcome addition to the Edenstone team. Under his supervision I am confident that we will be able to rapidly increase the number of homes we build to help address the housing shortage, while also maintaining the high standards Edenstone has built a reputation for delivering to its customers.”
