Bute Park in Cardiff could be getting a new catering outlet to serve the northern area of the popular green space in the city centre.

Cardiff Council have issued a tender seeking to find an experienced catering operator to run a mobile operation, covering one of three locations at any given time. The three sites, near Blackweir Bridge, Tal-y-bont Halls of Residence and Blackweir Changing Rooms are popular all year around and have high footfall at different times of the day and week.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: “We want to offer visitors to Bute Park the best possible experience. That means making sure we maintain the aesthetics of the park and our tender is very specific about looking for operators who can demonstrate they will manage their business in an environmentally conscious way.

“The extra funds generated as a result of these new sites will help us continue to maintain and improve this world-class green space at the heart of the city.”

The commercial terms of the agreement, which would run for an initial 12 month period, set out the business’s responsibility for clearing litter within a 20 metre radius of the site, disposing of any waste correctly and the need to maintain a Food Standards Agency rating of at least 3/5. The successful vendor would also be prohibited from selling alcohol and tobacco.

The tenders will be judged based on criteria including: the menu range and price, previous catering experience, an environmental statement covering areas including minimising air pollution and water use, and the proposed trading schedule.
