The Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr school modernisation scheme is continuing to make progress as part of plans to expand the amount of Welsh-medium education provision in Bridgend County Borough.
Following the discovery of slow worms and common lizards at the site of the proposed new development in Ffordd Cadfan, a suitable receptor location has been identified and the relocation of the reptiles is currently underway in line with ecological regulations.
To help accommodate growing pupil numbers ahead of the move to the new school, a double temporary classroom unit has been installed at the existing Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr site. The project has also secured £1.1 million in Welsh Government grant funding to support the delivery of a co-located Welsh-medium childcare facility, which will form part of the wider development and further strengthen Welsh-medium education provision in the county borough.
Following a recent inspection of local government education services, Estyn inspectors praised the council’s overall school modernisation programme for its close alignment with the Welsh in Education Strategic Plan.
We are pleased that practical steps are being taken to support both the current and future needs of pupils and families and the installation of temporary classrooms is a forward thinking move that will help continue the positive momentum of Welsh-medium education in Bridgend County Borough. Securing £1.1 million in Welsh Government funding for the co-located Welsh-medium childcare provision is a significant achievement which will help to strengthen our Welsh-medium education pathway. It is also encouraging that Estyn recently recognised the strength of our school modernisation programme and its alignment with our Welsh in Education Strategic Plan.
