The Haystack Café, a farm Welsh-style café and coffee shop, is set to open its second venue in Merthyr Tydfil and will be based within the former Howfields Bakery building on the High Street.

The owner, Liam Lazarus, has been fully supported by the Council though advice, guidance and also secured a grant for fit out from the Merthyr Tydfil Shared Prosperity Grants Programme.

The highly anticipated opening, which will offer up to 25 new local jobs, will occur within the coming weeks and details on the opening will be issued a week before the launch date. Haystack have promised residents who intend to visit on opening day a surprise – which they said was a “small gesture, a way for us to express gratitude for welcoming the Haystack Café into your town”.

Haystack’s journey began in Swansea, where the first Haystack Café took root, inspired by the serene landscapes and warm hospitality of Welsh farms. The location quickly became a community favourite, offering local produce-inspired breakfasts and a cozy atmosphere that feels like a rustic escape.

Liam Lazarus, owner of Haystack Café commented, “The lively energy and welcoming spirit of Merthyr caught our attention, prompting us to extend the Haystack Café experience to your town. We aim to create a place in Merthyr where locals can gather, enjoy delicious meals, savour the richness of Coaltown Coffee and create memories.”

Cllr Michelle Symonds, Cabinet Member for Regeneration added, “It’s fantastic to be able to welcome a new vibrant business to our ever-growing Town Centre and we wish them the very best on their new business venture.”
