Conwy Mind is proud to announce the official launch of the ‘Changing Minds’ project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing mental health support across the Conwy region. This project has been made possible through a generous £360,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The ‘Changing Minds’ project is designed to provide low-level, easy-access mental health checks and to build a community of mental health champions across the county. Our goals are to reduce stigma, encourage early intervention, focus on individual strengths, and normalise conversations about mental health. By focusing on early intervention and community engagement, the project seeks to empower individuals to achieve better mental well-being.

A key feature of the project is the introduction of free Mental Health MOTs, an innovative approach to proactive mental health care. Just like taking your car in for an MOT or booking a routine check-up at the dentist, these wellness checks provide a simple, low-level way to make sure everything is in good working order. Whether it’s dealing with work pressures, financial strains after Christmas, coping with the recent water shortages, or just enduring the gloomy winter weather, we all experience ups and downs, and the one-to-one Mental Health MOTs are designed to help people check in on their well-being in a safe and supportive environment.

The free Mental Health MOTs offer individuals a space to discuss their well-being with trained professionals, assess their current state of mind, and develop personalised action plans to support mental health. Each session includes guidance on self-care strategies, signposting to relevant support services, and practical steps to enhance daily well-being.

The launch coincides with ‘Time to Talk Day,’ a national event dedicated to encouraging open conversations about mental health. Conwy Mind invites community members to participate in this day by engaging in discussions that help normalise mental health conversations.

“We are thrilled to introduce the ‘Changing Minds’ project to our community,” said Denise Roberts, CEO at Conwy Mind. “With the support from The National Lottery Community Fund, we aim to make a significant impact on mental health in Conwy by offering accessible and tailored services to those in need. The Mental Health MOTs, in particular, provide an invaluable tool for early intervention, helping individuals take control of their mental well-being before issues escalate.”
