The new Aldi foodstore in Porthcawl is set to officially open this Thursday (13 July) and around 45 local residents have been successful in gaining employment at the store.

The store is located at Salt Lake in Porthcawl and features a unique design which includes a ‘wave’ motif and the use of distinctive wood and limestone materials to create a landmark gateway to the town.

The outside areas have also been extensively landscaped and include benches and examples of local art.

The store also has over 100 car parking spaces, which includes designated blue badge spaces as well as parent and child parking bays. There are also electric vehicle charging points located within the car park.

Cllr Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Wellbeing, said: “It’s fantastic that the opening of the store is now just days away and this represents a real landmark moment for Porthcawl which will bring many benefits to both residents and the local economy.

“I’m also sure that the launch of this new store will help to increase town centre footfall as a result of passing trade and it’s really pleasing to hear that so many local people have been successful in securing employment with Aldi.

“A high quality, bespoke design was a key requirement throughout the bidding process and the building looks exactly like the artist impressions which is testament to the work of all involved.”
