Long-established Aberdare Town FC set up the under 16’s side due to demand from players wanting to play locally but was looking for all the support they could get so that they could purchase necessary training equipment and kit for the 20-strong squad.

Happy to help, local energy company Pennant Walters, stepped in and donated £800 which enabled the team to purchase training tracksuits. The funding is linked to Pennant Walters’ 9 turbine 22 MW Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, which became operational in summer 2015.

Peter Taylor, Coach at Aberdare Town FC, said:

“This funding, along with support from others, has been fantastic. The demand for the under 16’s side was there but that was just the start. We needed the financial support to ensure that we could run the side in a proper manner and that meant investing in kit, training venue hire and equipment, which all added up.

“The support from Pennant Walters has been great and we are delighted with the partnership. As we play throughout the season, we will play teams from across the valley and will be proud to wear the Pennant Walters name on our kit.”

Pennant Walters asset manager, Harry Llewellyn, said:

“We are proud to support the efforts of sports clubs across the local community and it’s been fantastic to see yet another side become established due to player demand.

“Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the local communities in which we work, and we hope this support has made a difference to the young people playing.”
