Newport Live, has secured additional funding to run even more exciting holiday activities throughout the summer. Thanks to funding from Newport City Council via a £5 million Welsh Government Summer of Fun fund, this year’s lineup of events, activities and programmes across sport, leisure, theatre, arts, and culture promises to be more exciting, varied, and most importantly accessible than ever.

This year’s summer of fun encompasses activities across the whole city, so whether you plan a visit to one of our centers or join us at one of our events in the community. From Welly Walking to Crafty Saturdays, to intensive swimming lessons, multi-sport camp, youth track cycling sessions, and with the Big Splash taking over so many parts of the Newport’s city centre on the weekend of 23/24 July, this summer promises to be our most fun yet.

Andrea Ovey, Director of Business Development at Newport Live said “The additional support from the Summer of Fun fund means that as well as the activities that we run every year, which are always popular, this year we’ve been able to add brand new ones, including many that are completely free, or highly subsidised too.

Our Rookie Fitness courses, for example, offer young people the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a fitness instructor in one of our centres, and has a huge 50% discount; our cycling track sessions are completely free, and the cost our intensive swimming lessons has been reduced, too.

The Riverfront Theatre will also be running theatre performances and cinema screenings free of charge to certain groups within the community throughout the summer school holidays”.

The engagement and activities being provided by Newport Live over the summer, complements year-round work to increase children, young people, and adult levels of physical activity, engagement in the arts, and improves their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Newport Live is a charitable organisation, which means the money they make is wholly reinvested into the services and facilities they offer, so all Newport Live customers are supporting the local community through the delivery of these projects and activities.
