Newport pub to reopen following £215,000 refurbishment

The Maindee on Chepstow Road is set to reopen on the 9th August after a major investment of £215,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs, the community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which has more than 175 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Behind the bar is community hero and passionate operator, Emma Lewis, who is a resident of the surrounding area and has been the manager of the Maindee for several years. Emma will be running the Maindee alongside a supportive team which includes her partner, John, with the aim of creating a family-friendly environment. The combination of Emma’s local knowledge and experience within the hospitality industry will enable her to create an active social hub for all members of the community to enjoy.

Following an extensive external refurbishment earlier this year, including brand-new lighting and signage to greet customers, the Maindee will undergo a complete interior redecoration. Inside the pub will be transformed with a brand-new bar area, furniture, wooden flooring, soft furnishings, fixtures and fittings throughout to give it a warmer, more welcoming feel. Featuring rich colours, eye-catching patterned wallpapers, and textured fabrics the Maindee will offer a traditional pub atmosphere with a modern, updated twist.

The Maindee will be offering a wide range of drinks offers, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week.

Emma Lewis, operator of the Maindee, is excited about the reopening and said: “The pub looks fantastic, and I can’t believe the transformation. I’m really excited to get behind the bar, meet all our customers and support our local community. We’ll be starting off by collecting food for a local food bank, and donations to get a defibrillator installed.

Pubs are the hub of their community, and we can’t wait to be the hub of Newport.”

On top of the fantastic range of drinks offers, Emma looks forward to hosting a regular schedule of entertainment including karaoke, games clubs – including pool and darts tournaments – quiz nights and live music to bring local residents together. The pub also hosts both Sky Sports and BT Sports for customers to enjoy when they want to watch their favourite team play. In addition, Emma is excited to support several community initiatives with her first aim being to raise money to have a lifesaving defibrillator installed on-site.

Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “I’m really excited about the opening of the Maindee! The team has worked hard on the refurbishment, and we’re just finalising the finishing touches ready to open in just a few weeks’ time.

On behalf of the Proper Pubs team, we would like to wish our community hero, Emma, every inch of success for the future in making the Maindee a fantastic hub of the community.”

Proper Pubs is always supporting its communities through an array of events and charity fundraising initiatives, from Easter Egg collections to local foodbank donations and charity walks. Proper Pubs recently installed its 100th defibrillator across its estate through fundraising with the help of its locals.

The Maindee is located on Chepstow Road, Maindee, Newport, NP19 8BZ.
