Newport City Council is delighted to once again be supporting Clean Air Day this year.

Clean Air Day is an annual campaign run across the UK by Global Action Plan. The campaign aims to highlight issues around air pollution and inspire people to take steps to tackle poor air quality.

On Thursday, the council will be holding its third annual Clean Air Day event, which this year is being hosted by Jubilee Park Primary school.

Pupils from Jubilee Park, High Cross, Mount Pleasant, Pentrepoeth, Rogerstone and Bassaleg schools will join together to learn about air quality, why it is important, and what we can do to help reduce air pollution.

The pupils will explore the air quality around the school through a number of fun activities, with help from air quality experts.

There will also be demonstrations of air quality-related technology, including:

    •         An app for investigating Lichens and air quality with Air Quality Consultants

    •         Earthsense’s Zephyr sensor and My Air mapping software

    •         A Drimaster-Eco Positive Input Ventilation system demonstration from Nuaire

    •         An interactive display from Intecso about their ECO Post

Envirotechnology’s Smogmobile, their air quality measuring vehicle, will also be on display alongside electric vehicles from the council’s own fleet.

Commenting ahead of the event, Councillor Jane Mudd, leader of the council, said: “I’m delighted that we are once again coming together to celebrate Clean Air Day.

“Clean Air Day is important as it encourages us to take time to think about what we can do differently in our own lives to help tackle poor air quality.

“Supporting nationwide campaigns such as this will help us to further raise awareness of the issues around air quality, and hopefully inspire more of our residents to get involved however they can!”
