Newport City Council has welcomed the announcement from Welsh government that Newport will play host to a major international investment summit in December.
The event, which will take place at International Convention Centre Wales and the Celtic Manor Resort, will focus on promoting Wales as a destination for overseas investors.

“This is Newport’s time to shine, and this summit being held in Newport shows that.” said Councillor Dimitri Batrouni, leader of the council.

“We are the fastest growing area in Wales and our economic potential is enormous. Many investors are already recognising this, and I welcome this great opportunity for us to promote Newport to more investors”

“Through our compound semiconductor cluster, our proposals for an AI growth zone and our place at the heart of the southeast Wales investment zone, we are already a hub for global business, and we have great transport links and connections to major cities across Wales and the UK.

“For any business looking to invest in Wales, our message is clear: Newport is the perfect location for you.”

Newport is undergoing one of the largest regeneration programmes in the UK. At the heart of this is a vision to create a revitalised and vibrant city with a strong, independent identity.

Newport’s growth and investment infrastructure delivers exciting opportunities for any investor, including:

    • over 3.3m people live within an hour’s drive of the city
    • the second largest proportion of high-growth businesses in the UK
    • population growth of 9.5 per cent between 2011-2021
    • around £1bn of trade handled by the Port of Newport every year
    • superfast and ultrafast broadband available in 96 per cent of all premises in the city
    • a strong skills base with 97 per cent of young people in education, employment or training.
