A number of arrests have been made in the last three weeks as part of Renew Bangor, a multi-agency partnership targeting serious and organised crime.

The team, which is made up of six police officers and a sergeant, have focused their efforts on increasing visibility on the high street, Hirael and Maesgeirchen as well as conducting several drugs warrants in the area.

Since the beginning of March, 24 people have been arrested in connection with offences including drug supply, drug driving, violent behaviour, money laundering, theft, and being wanted on warrant.

The team have also conducted 56 proactive stop searches which resulted in 28 positive results for suspected class A, B and C drugs and stolen property.

Superintendent Arwel Hughes said: “I’m grateful for the initial support that we have received from residents and partner agencies following the launch of Renew Bangor, and hope that we can continue to work together to improve the image of the high street in the coming weeks.

“We will continue to conduct high visibility patrols, and I encourage community members to speak to officers about any concerns they have about drugs or anti-social behaviour.

“My ultimate aim is to make the city feel like a safe place to live, work and visit, resulting in Bangor High Street being an attractive place for new businesses to trade.”

Anyone with concerns about serious and organised crime or anti-social behaviour in Bangor can speak to an officer in the street, visit Bangor police station, on our website, by calling 101, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
